Cube World appeared to mesh the two in this type of way so as to create together the procedurally generated worlds of Minecraft along while using world destruction and mesh them with the questing and adventuring aspects of Zelda. It was able to achieve all of this while still only being a few weeks in to the development cycle. Amazing to repeat the least.Unfortunately there was still a great deal concerning the game we didnt know like whether or not Minecraft and Zelda were inspirations when the overall game was supposed to have released or even just what the planned distribution channel was for that game.Luckily the games developer Wolfram von Funck got a your hands on me to reply to a couple of questions. EnjoyCan you explain somewhat bit with regards to you like a game developer and what youve done previouslyIm 32 years old are now living in Germany and also have programmed games and engines 1 / 2 of my life. Besides that Im also enthusiastic about drawing and digital art. I have studied computer science and after receiving my PhD I started my very own small graphics software company (www.picroma.com). Game programming remains my hobby and Cube World is my first serious game project.Your game Cube World looks remarkably like a Minecraft/Zelda hybrid. Was this your intention What was your inspiration behind the gameMaking a hybrid of those games wasnt my intention from the beginning though the idea developed over time. Both Minecraft and Zelda were definitely big inspirations for me.What I like about Minecraft is the fact that a procedurally generated world comprised of cubes allows a single developer to produce a full 3D game having a huge world to explore. You dont even need level editors modeling software or even a team of artists. Furthermore programming a game engine depending on voxels is undoubtedly easier when compared to a full-blown 3D engine like CryEngine or UnrealEngine on the cost of realism that literally brings me on the next inspirations I love games like Zelda Landstalker Secret of Mana and Final Fantasy. As a youngster Ive always dreamt of making this kind of game by myself. So another step for Cube World would have been to translate the standard JRPG pixel art style (big head spiky hair etc.) into the planet of voxels. Thats what I did along with a Minecraft/Zelda baby came away from itHow long has Cube World been in development forI started the project this year on May 25. I was captivated with the project right through the start so it reached a rather mature state already from a few weeks (including some sleepless nights). What form of gameplay do you think that you're planning for Cube World Questing Crafting RPG elementsId like to set a powerful emphasis on questing so theres always something meaningful to do. As the globe is procedurally generated the quests is going to be procedurally generated too. This saves me from scripting countless quests and the players get new tasks every one of the time. Another focus should be the exploration in the Cube World also as character advancement in the typical RPG style by skills and equipment. Combat is planned to be HacknSlash-like and fast-paced. There will likely be no crafting or mining. The game seems to be create for multiplayer. Are you planningon this being primarily a multiplayer gameI have built-in multiplayer right from your start to avoid complications within the future development. I understand the game as both single player and multiplayer game. This could possibly be a little ways off but maybe you have considered how youre gonna release/distribute the overall game Are you thinking of an identical process as Minecraft where players bought the Alpha versionI do not have any concrete plans yet. I cant even estimate when the sport will be finished. However the Steam platform seems appealing to me.Anything else you can think about to tell usI had never expected such a huge feedback for my little game project. It all started over at TIGForums (forums.tigsource.com) where I just designed to share my project along with other indie developers to obtain feedback and inspirations from like-minded people. I recommend it along with other indie developers you obtain lots of constructive critique there.Well be keeping close tabs about this game inside future as it develops.
